The prison was made to detain and interrogate dangerous criminals for war crimes. The camp was then getting numerous complaints from the prisoners about abuse and torture that was happening to them.
What Happened?

Here, a prisoner is being tortured by an act called water-boarding. Water-boarding is a harsh interrogation method that stimulates drowning and near death. A prisoners is laid down and strapped at an angle, his face is covered by a cloth and water is then poured onto their face.

In the prison, inmates would get tired of the torture and would go on hunger strikes. To get the prisoners to eat, the prisoner was strapped to a chair like this (this was an actual chair used on 104 prisoners that went on the hunger strike) and was forced- fed for long multiple hours thorough a tube.

Here is a picture of a cell that prisoners would stay in when they were sent to solitary confinement. You may think that solitary confinement wasn't as bad as the other torture, but it was just as bad, if not worse because it tortured the prisoners mentally. Prisoners were kept in solitary confinement for many hours, days, even weeks and months. They were kept in the dark for so long, doing so could make a person go blind. While a prisoner was in solitary confinement, prison guards would use little lights to play with the prisoners eyes and after being in the dark for so long, they would see things it would make them go insane.
